The Abstract Culture of My Panel

Abstract Culture of My Panel

The material culture of my panel is the pictures and poem of Gil-Scott and his works. The pictures detail some portraits, a picture of Africa with a closed fist for civil rights and his most famous work. These pictures portray some conceptual and abstract aspects of African American culture such as the history and slavery of African American people. Gil-Scott used his spoken word and life to shed light on struggle of the feeling of confinement and hopelessness in today’s time period. We cannot see the emotions and struggles of the African American culture in this panel but if you look deep enough into it you can see the metaphysical aspects of this artifact.
